Heritage & Overview
The SēL Instrument has set a new benchmark in the world of horology with its OmniDiver MK1. This groundbreaking tool watch, crafted by the American manufacturer founded in 2013 by Andrew McLean, represents a revolutionary approach to dive watch design, emphasizing high-pressure sealing, thermal stability, and impact shock mitigation.
The OmniDiver MK1 is a remarkable feat of engineering, being the first U.S.-made grade 5 titanium diver rated to an astonishing 6,000 meters (600 atm), which is 20 times the industry standard. Its construction features a robust 6-piece case optimized for 10,000 psi crush resistance. The watch incorporates a shock-isolated 'floating' inner case for the movement and sapphire crystal, ensuring unparalleled durability.
The thermodynamic outer case is designed for oil filling, enhancing its thermal stability. The watch also boasts two-stage dynamic seals, an ultra-smooth high-precision ball bearing bezel with piston indexing, and Teflon thrust bearings in its evolutions. The in-house screw-down crown is centrally positioned for ambidexterity and features integrated lug protection.
Measuring 46mm in case diameter, 48mm bezel, and 15.4mm in height, the OmniDiver MK1 weighs just 168g, including its full grade 5 titanium bracelet, hand-machined in Phoenix. The watch is available in two variants: a high-accuracy thermocompensated ETA Prestige quartz with an end-of-life battery alarm and a Sellita SW200 automatic movement.
The dial design is military-inspired, featuring lume markers and 24-hour gradients with exceptional 50%+ lume application. The anti-shock handsets prevent slippage, and variations include date windows or exposed jewels. Renowned for its bombproof performance, the OmniDiver MK1 has survived extreme tests such as crush tests, freezing/defrosting, and vehicle run-overs.
Priced around $4,875, the MK1 is now discontinued, succeeded by the OmniDiver MK2, which includes enhancements like enlarged crowns and more lume. This model embodies SēL's legacy vision of ultra-performance tool watches, built in integrated U.S. workshops since 2017. The OmniDiver MK1's significance lies in pioneering American extreme-depth titanium divers, prioritizing function over aesthetics for harsh environments such as deep-sea exploration, law enforcement, or machinery work.
